About Me
I am an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, Chartered Psychologist (British Psychological Society), registered Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) and a member of UKCP (United Kingdom for Counselling and Psychotherapy) accredited by them as an Integrative Psychotherapist. I adhere to the ethical framework of the above professional bodies.
There are different ‘schools’ of psychotherapy, as an ‘integrative’ therapist I don’t subscribe to any one technique, method or model, rather I prefer to draw on different approaches in relation to you, my client, however Relational Psychodynamic concepts are at the heart of my work.
Training, qualifications and experience
BSc (Hons), Psychology
Clinical Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy – Metanoia Institute/Middlesex University
DCPsych – Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy by Professional Studies.
My doctoral research was a qualitative study (Narrative Inquiry) titled ‘How do women with a history of SEED–AN (severe and enduring eating disorders) experience navigating their lives away from and beyond their illness’. This study emerged from the significant affinity I have personally and professionally with this illness. I am co-founder of Anorexic Aid (now B-eat), an active member of the Academy of Eating Disorders which is a collaborative global organisation where we exchange research, learnings and experiences. I am a visiting tutor and guest speaker at Universities and eating disorder units in the Private sector and the NHS.
It is my belief that whilst ‘symptoms’ may be similar, whether we are referring to eating disorders, panic attacks, OCD or other mental health challenges it is the person and their history that sits centre stage in our work. That doesn’t mean we ignore the symptoms, far from it, rather we also need curiosity, as to why they are present and what they may be telling us.
I have worked within the NHS at a London teaching hospital’s psychotherapy department where we supported patients with a range of complex issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, personality disorders, obsessive compulsive traits and abuse.
I now work in private practice based in Stanmore, Middlesex as well as online via Skype and Zoom.
